LIVE RECORDING & BROADCASTING

Live Recording and Mixing

One of the most fun experiences I enjoy is recording and mixing for a live show broadcast. This is the one situation that I am able to experience what the artists and performers do when playing live on stage. In the studio, you can do it again and everything can be scrutinized. In a “Live” broadcast situation, there is no going back to fix it later, this is it, if you goof, it’s history and will stay that way right or wrong. The urgency and excitement of a live show translates into the remote truck and then to the mix being broadcasted. In a live recording environment, specific mics and techniques can’t always be used as there is the consideration of leakage and sound over the house and monitor PA systems. Being able to adjust to this situation offers its own challenges and promotes open thinking to what is possible in the live venue.
